Metropolis Colors 51

Nobody planned the streets in this city. It starts as a single point on a blank sheet, and a short set of rules runs again and again until there is no room left to build. Each step lays a short stretch of road. Now and then a road turns at a right angle and opens a side street. A new street is kept only if it has space around it. Neighbourhoods fill up one at a time, and when one is full the city spreads somewhere new.

The result reads like an old printed city plan: long main roads, small lanes, and districts with their own character. None of it is drawn by hand, and nothing in the rules mentions roads or neighbourhoods.

Each Metropolis work grows from its own random seed and settings. The city is generated once and rendered at full print resolution, so every line is sharp at the size you order and nothing is enlarged.
